The Blue Mountains of Australia

If you have ever been to Australia, or indeed done much research into the country then you may have noticed the descriptiveness of some of the names - the Blue Mountains being one of them (inevitably they look blue)!

With Adele blasting into my headphones, I left Sydney at an ungodly hour to jump on a bus and go to explore them.

The Blue Mountains are on land which isn't arable meaning that the landscape has been virtually been unchanged through the years. Hence it is now a beautiful national park with waterfall after waterfall and viewpoint after viewpoint making it a spectacular place to spend a few hours.

One of the stops, incidentally the most famous, is the place where you hop off to see the 'Three Sisters". These are three rocks which are wrapped in mystery and the legend of the aboriginal tribes who once thrived in that area. The story goes that three sisters fell in love with three brothers from an enemy tribe. As marriage between the two tribes was prohibited, the brothers went to war in an effort to steal the girls. In order to protect the girls, the brothers had them turned into stone by their chief who was then unfortunately killed in the war. No one has ever been able to change the sisters back so now they stand looking over everyone, watching and waiting.

The whole day was spent being taken to look a views each one better than the last until the guide decided to take us off track a bit to a secret spot. It was literally a rock protruding from the side of a mountain, completely away from any tourists. And even though we had to run to beat the rain at the end it was definitely worth it!
