Island Life: Swimming, Skinny Dipping and Crab Racing

I have fallen completely and utterly in love with Grenada: as I am write this I'm laying on a sunbed, sipping coconut water and looking out over the pool and into the palm trees and sea stretching below. Feeling totally at ease with the world.

This is the life! The next couple of days are pretty much that - couple days, my boyfriend and I have left the south of the island to stay in a remote and luxury hotel called the petite anse in the north. Before we left our hostess with the mostest helped me check off two of my bucket list challenges, with me doing a third in a moment of madness.
From the title of this blog you can probably make a pretty educated guess as to what these three things were, but I'll put you out of your suspense and tell you a bit more about them anyway!

Swimming Under a Fountain
Having read my bucket list, it was clear that Ashleigh was on just as much of a mission to help me tick as many of the things off as I was - fristly by taking me to Mt. Carmel waterfall. This was pretty awesome - and equipped with a water proof camera we stripped off and dived in! It was freezing, and the feel of the water falling on you felt like small pinpricks - but it was epic and I would do it all over again in a heart beat!

Continuing our quick tour around the island we headed to Pearls Airport, which was the focal point of the American invasion as it was the hub of the communism regime in the country. All that's left of it now are a couple of planes wrecked with decay and covered in foliage, although that didn't stop Tim from thinking he was someone from TopGun and jumping into the cockpit!

We couldn't spent too much time rummaging around with the planes though as we had to get back for the traditional...crab racing! Yep you read that right - crab racing where you place your bets on a crab and hope to god it scutters as quickly as possible to the edge of the circle to win you some good old East Caribbean dollars!

Karaoke
Our little crab didn't win unfortunately, but it was a great thing to watch and something I'm not sure I will get the opportunity to do again. The bar then dimmed the lights, turned up the volume and karaoke started. Now cast your mind back to my bucket list - pretty sure there was something about karaoke in there right? Yep so after many attempts at running away, I was finally dragged up on stage to give a heart warming rendition of uptown girl. The bar was mainly empty at this point though I'm not sure whether that was due to my singing or the fact that it was almost 2am on a Monday night - I'm going to go with the latter.

Skinny Dipping off Grand Anse Beach

This was the last of my escapades for the day. I find that if you ask most people if they have been skinny dipping they say yes and cast their minds back to when they were kids and it was just easier to let them run around and swim naked - this is not what I meant as I was definitely a victim of that. This was strictly skinny dipping after the age of 18 and in a public place: if you are a kid or do it somewhere private it 100% doesn't count. So at about 1am I ticked this it off my list, took off all my clothes and ran into the ocean! It wasn't just any old beach either - the grand anse beach happens to be one of the top 10 beaches in the world, so safe to say I feel pretty proud of myself!

Until next time
