My housemates and I thought that one of the best ways to make sure that we didn’t miss out on anything while living in London was to create a bucket list of things to do. The problem is once you start something like this – the list just gets longer and you somehow feel obliged to tick everything off. But since last writing we have finally got around to doing some of them! :D
Firstly the Oxford v Cambridge boat race – something that you have to see live if you live in London. And before you ask my interest in rowing is pretty much as close to zero as you can get, I have never rowed in my life (or been interested in trying), I don’t understand anything about the logistics and I only go to Henley for the pimms. That said the majority of people who go tend to go for the social side of things, they go for the atmosphere and I don’t think most of them mind who wins (I say this as several people around were happily shouting ‘Go Oxbridge’ to see if anyone noticed). Thanks to a friend of mine we were luckily able to see the start of the race from a balcony with a gin and tonic – what more could you ask for?
Apparently some guys in Shoreditch decided a few years back to hold an annual goat race on the same day as the boat race. Not sure it had the same amount of spectators but hey could be fun. Next year anyone?
Carrying on the nautical theme (ish) my housemate and I decided to head down to Sea Life and see some sharks. Just putting it out there – I love it! I think I could probably sit and watch fish all day. The last time I went to the aquarium I was about 16 and the only things I can remember are the sharks and getting to stroke the stingrays (but they don’t let you do that anymore *sigh*) but apparently now they have penguins!! Double Yay! I have to admit that it was surreal seeing penguins, one of which was clearly teasing us by walking back and forth deciding whether or not it would bring us joy by diving in, while the other penguins seemed to be having what can only be described as a serious debate over pebbles.
There is no doubt in my mind that it won’t be too long before my next visit - I love the fact that the sharks come so close to you! Although having said that they are incredibly creepy, unless you think of them as the ones out of Finding Nemo – sharks with an Australian accent are somewhat less menacing (or any accent come to that). Still out of all the crazy things I want to do in life, I vow that you will never get me to go cage diving. And my housemate and I got a sharkselfie – yep that happened *hangs head in shame* but whatever.
So that’s two things crossed off and about a billion other things to do. Bring it on London – let’s see what you’ve got!!
